*Position Focus:
Responsible for all copyright registrations and research; coordinates prize/award programs for the Press.

1. Examine & register YUP books with U.S. Copyright Office using the Copyright Office's online system.
2. Review YUP contracts and license agreements to determine copyright ownership & registration responsibility.
3. Research and report copyright notice discrepancies to Contracts Associate and YUP editors/management as applicable.
4. Log registration & copyright certificate information into Press database.
5. Handle registration application questions from the U.S. Copyright Office as they arise.
6. Follow up with the U.S. Copyright Office regarding copyright certificate status.
7. Assist with litigation requests.
8. Assist with other projects as requested by Contracts Associate.
9. Working with the Acquisitions Department editors and Press management, enters selected and eligible New Haven Press books for large variety of prizes and awards, corresponds with the prize organizations, authors, and editors to submit in timely fashion each season, drafts and sends award notification letters. Notifies Press personnel and authors of their selection, coordinates announcements and attendance at award ceremonies.
10. Maintains database of prize-giving organizations and foundations, researching and keeping Press editors and management current with same.
11. Provides backup support to YUP Administration Department on occasion.
12.May perform other duties as assigned.

*Principal Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for all copyright registrations (approximately 350+ per year) and applicable research; orders and dispatches required copies to the USCO; administers and files all TX forms; creates and oversees calendar of copyright registrations; monitors the copyright submissions account, keeping track of expenditures and processing expenses for the registrations. 2. Responsible for entering selected and eligible Press books for prizes and awards (400+), including corresponding with applicable organizations, authors, and editors to complete entries in a timely fashion and tracking and processing any expenses and fees. Maintains large database of prize-giving organizations and foundations and maintains calendar of awards; keeps applicable YUP personnel up-to-date regarding same. Notifies Press personnel and authors of prize selections and coordinates announcements and attendance at award ceremonies. 3. Coordinates the program by which Yale’s Sterling Memorial Library receives two copies of each Yale Press books, under the terms of an agreement with SML. 4. Creates and maintains filing systems for projects. 5. Drafts letters and written materials for assigned projects. 6. Provides backup support to YUP Administration Department on occasion. 7. May perform other duties as assigned.
*Required Education and Experience:
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate degree or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications
Required License(s) or Certification(s):
*Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated basic understanding of U.S. Copyright law and familiarity with U.S. Copyright policies and procedures for registration of copyright.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Demonstrated ability in reading and interpreting publishing agreements and contracts.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to take initiative, work independently, prioritize tasks, work on many projects at once, and to work on deadline, with minimal supervision.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Proven ability to work successfully with others and as part of a team. 
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and databases.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Previous administrative experience in publishing or related work environment.
