Editorial Associate II-Administrative



This Editorial Associate works with the Books Division's Editorial Director. The associate acts as the editorial director's liaison with authors, copublishers, and reviewers as well as with other Press departments (design, editing, production, marketing). The associate oversees preparation of dossiers for editorial committee and faculty board meetings; prepares budgets and contracts; maintains database of proposals under review and researches appropriate reviewers for projects; prepares transmittal materials on new manuscripts for editing, design and production; evaluates author illustration programs; and proofreads materials circulated as part of the prepublication materials for books. This Editorial Associate also has primary responsibility for assessing and refining best practices for departmental workflow and updating functionality of online systems in consultation with IT department. The Associate manages daily operation of the Editorial Director's office, identifies and resolves administrative problems, monitors and reconciles accounts, coordinates logistics of events, and assists the Editorial Director in developing departmental goals and policies. Over time, and at the Editorial Director's discretion, the Associate may evaluate unsolicited manuscript proposals and provide acquisition analyses and recommendations. May travel to scholarly meetings with Editorial Director to meet with authors, and may also travel in the place of the Editorial Director with responsibility for author meetings. May present projects at Press editorial, transmittal, and Board meetings in Editorial Director's absence.

Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience within a publishing house, academic unit, cultural non-profit, or comparable organization required.
