Publicity Manager


Under the direct supervision of the Marketing and Sales Director, the Publicity Manager will oversee the creation and execution of publicity campaigns for up to 130 new books a year plus a back list of 3,000 titles. This position helps to develop and communicate the Press’s brand, mission, and message through various regional, national, and international publicity campaigns. The role includes, but is not limited to, creating publicity campaigns, developing and maintaining media relationships, liaising with authors, writing publicity content, and monitoring the publicity budget.

The Publicity Manager will liaise the other members of the marketing team to coordinate publicity campaigns with digital marketing, special sales, exhibits, awards, advertising, social media, and any other marketing efforts to ensure that the Press’s books are highly visible and successful in both outreach and sales.

The Publicity Manager will be responsible for, under the guidance of the Marketing and Sales Director, understanding publicity best-practices, developing new outreach efforts, maintainin and developing new media contacts, working with authors to best promote them and their expertise through the media, and ensuring all data is updated and accurate in the Press’s system-wide database. The position oversees all the outward-facing publicity and media content of the Press, and serves to ensure that the Press, its books, and its authors are accurately, fairly, and prominently represented in scholarly, regional, national, and international media of all kinds.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, 2-3 years related experience, or equivalent cominbation of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, acts as primary liaison between the Press and media. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask are vital. Position requires developing and executing publicity campaign for several books at once. Working knowledge of standard office software and applications. Experience working with the media or in publicity.

Preferred Qualifications:

4+ years experience in publicity and/or academic publishing preferred. Previous supervisory experience. Working knowledge of FileMaker databases.
