Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Assistant II for Rutgers University Press. This position assists the Business Manager with all accounting and finance related activities for the University Press, including financial reporting, budgeting, royalty management, forecasting, cash management, payroll, and grant administration.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Assists with monthly and year-end close process, including preparation of Income Statement and Balance Sheet, journal entries, variance analysis, and account reconciliations.
• Assists with setting up Authors’ book contracts in Elan royalty system, processing royalty checks in SciQuest, and mailing royalty statements.
• Assists with explaining information on royalty statements to Authors (i.e. # of units sold/returned, positive vs. negative balances, etc.).
• Processes check requests and purchase orders in the University’s procurement system using SciQuest.
• Assists with the development of fiscal year operating budget, including preparing budget templates, entering budget for various expenses in Excel spreadsheets, and entering budget in Hyperion Planning system.
• Process biweekly hourly payroll.
• Prepares cash and check deposits, ensuring security of funds received and creating sound system of internal assurances and controls for the department.
• Downloads eBook sales reports and send them to Fulfillment Services Company for processing.
• Maintains and updates eBook vendor summaries.
• Other related tasks and special projects as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a bachelor’s degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires good communication skills and computer literacy.

• Must be able to work in fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of University Press Publishing.

Equipment Utilized

• Microsoft Excel and Word.
• SciQuest, Sage 100 ERP, Oracle Cloud Financials, PeopleSoft, Hyperion Planning.
