The Johns Hopkins University seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as the next Director of The Johns Hopkins University Press. Established in 1878, the JHU Press remains the oldest continually operating university press in the United States and is among the world’s largest. Award-winning books and journals in history, humanities, education, political science, life science, and consumer health reach a worldwide audience of scholars, students, and discerning readers. The JHU Press includes Project MUSE, a renowned online database of scholarly publications, offering more than 629 journals and 45,000 books in the humanities and social sciences from 250 not-for-profit publishers, used by more than 2,000 academic libraries worldwide through institutional site licenses. In addition, Hopkins Fulfillment Services at the JHU Press provides print and digital distribution for a distinguished group of university presses and nonprofit institutions.

The Director of the JHU Press reports to the provost and chief academic officer of the Johns Hopkins University. The Press comprises a staff of approximately 125 full-time employees and is routinely by advised by a Faculty Editorial Board and an Advisory Board.

The next Director will have the opportunity to set a strategic vision for the JHU Press that leverages its strengths, embraces emerging technologies, and outlines bold new initiatives focused on innovation and growth.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to scholarly publishing and a respect for and ability to collaborate with a world-class faculty; significant management experience and financial sophistication; and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituents.
