Description

The University Press of New England (UPNE) is seeking a talented and visionary Editor-in-Chief to lead the press in the next phase of its award-winning publishing activities. The Editor-in-Chief is comprehensively responsible for the editorial acquisitions program of UPNE in a manner consistent with the qualitative and financial goals set by the Director, Board of Governors, and Editorial Board.

The successful candidate should have

  • Substantial familiarity with all aspects of university press publishing, and in particular with editorial acquisitions of scholarly, academic, and trade books.
  • Substantial familiarity with one or more scholarly disciplines of press publishing activity.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with authors and university faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to assess generally the scholarly material and market conditions of a wide variety of fields.
  • Understanding of publication finances, and interrelation of all stages of the publishing process.
  • Superb writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong time-management and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects on time (term, quarter, and annual basis).
  • Strong ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks quickly.
  • Ability to handle and meet numerous overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of colleagues and constituencies; commitment to diversity.
